Role Reversal

This afternoon, I was helping a student finish up a paper and injustice, pain, and recovery.  As we were discussing the different implications of various forms of loss, we both began to cry: her because she missed her brother who died before they moved to the United States; me because I missed my aunt and grandparents.

While I was composing myself,  she stood next to me and patted me on the shoulder saying “It will be alright, Mrs. Crumpett.”
