Deep Breaths

Last Tuesday, I had a decent conversation with a freshman who’s experienced significant personal loss and is struggling not to react to the world in anger. Let’s call him “Theo.” We talked about breathing techniques and other strategies to alleviate frustration… “Theo” nodded a lot and didn’t tell me to screw myself, so I thought, “Success!”

So… today in class, I was trying to not overreact (and thought I was doing a stellar job, by the way) but “Theo” wasn’t buying it. He smirked at me and said, “Hey Miss, why don’t you try deep breaths?!”
