What a fascinating article! In a nutshell, NPR has outlined exactly why all schools should have parenting classes, and not just for the boys. I have just as many young mothers in my classes that have no idea what they’re doing and very few role-models to choose from.
I think we’re allowing a completely avoidable tragedy by removing parenting classes from schools (the one I teach at hasn’t had parenting classes in years) and not making these classes graduating requirements. Even in “nice” neighborhoods with “nice” families, these classes should be mandatory!
Just think of all the dysfunctionality (on even the smallest of scales) this and other classes like this could prevent.
