The Bronte sisters were a powerful force for feminism, I think. But Anne had the strongest and most stunning story to tell concerning the “woman’s plight.” She gave it sympathy, personality, and truth in a way her sisters could not.

  1. The parallels to teaching are clear here, too. And the statement against those in power and authority who watch chaos ensue without doing anything to prevent pain, heartache, and abuse will ultimately be held responsible.

      1. I absolutely love Jane Eyre, too, but I think Tenant of Wildfell Hall is better on several levels — I think it might have been healthier for me to have read this one first as a 13 year old instead of Jane Eyre… might have stilted my 20 year obsession with finding my own Rochester! lol
