Last week was the last Song Analysis Thursday <sniff, sniff>. We listened to and discussed Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Pugh’s (what a weird last name, Miss!) song, “See You Again.”
I continue to be fascinated by our students’ connection to the Walker-Diesel/O’Connor-Toretto relationship… and just how emotional they still are about Paul Walker’s death.
After we watched the music video, we discussed the “bigger message” of the song and I saw a few misty eyes. As I was reading the lines about family and “it’s been a long day without you, my friend” I got choked up, too.
It got real quiet and we took a moment to reflect and remember collectively… and then this poor kid’s desk suddenly and without reason collapsed in on him, making a horrific sound, and breaking the mood.
After we got him untangled from the desk, we finished up the analysis. I said, more to myself than to the class, “I don’t know why I was crying, I’ve heard this song dozens of times!”
A young lady responded with, “Miss, sometimes the moment just gets you.”
Ain’t that the truth!
